Four international flute stars will shine at Cremona Musica. They are: Gary Schocker from the US, Jean-Claude Gérard from France, Andrea Manco from Italy and Cho Sunghyun from South Korea. They will be the protagonists of masterclasses and performances taking place at the 30th edition of the Exhibition entirely dedicated to Great Music scheduled for September 29th to October 1st, 2017 at Cremona Exhibition Center.
The brilliant flutists will perform within Cremona Winds, the exhibit section for wind instruments officially opened in 2016. Along with Mondomusica (string instruments), Piano Experience (keyboard instruments) and the Acoustic Guitar Village (acoustic guitars), Cremona Winds well completes Cremona Musica exhibit repertoire. Schocker, Gérard, Manco and Sunghyun are only some of the Big Names of the International Flute Scenario that will perform at Cremona Musica thanks to the fruitful cooperation established with the Associazione Flautisti Italiani (Italian Flutists Association) headed by Salvatore Lombardi.
THE IDENTIKIT OF THE FLUTE STARS. With over 200 published compositions, Gary Schocker is the most prolific flute composer of our times. His career led him to perform all over the world: from the New York Philharmonic (when he was only 15 years old) to the Philadelphia Orchestra, going through the New Jersey Symphony, the Dallas Symphony, the West German Sinfonia and the I Solisti Italiani Orchestra. For a long time he has been the endorser of the worldwide known Powell Flutes.
Jean-Claude Gérard, who studied at the Conservatoire Supérieur de Paris under the guidance of Marcel Moyse, has already won several international music competitions. First Flute of the Concert Lamoureux Orchestra, he also performed several years in Germany with the Hamburg Philharmonic Orchestra and the Bach-Collegium in Stuttgart. He also worked as professor for the International Bach Academy in Suttgart, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival and the Mainz Villa Musica. In addition to the didactic activity, Jean-Claude Gérard has also been member of the Deutsche Blasersolisten, the Ensemble Villa Musica and the Bach-Collegium Stuttgart.
Since 2014, Andrea Manco has been first flute of the La Scala Theatre Orchestra and of the namesake philharmonic. Considered as one of the most talented flutists of his generations, he was awarded in several major international competitions. In 2002 he was appointed by Riccardo Muti as first flute of the Young Orchestra Luigi Cherubini. In 2003, when he was only 20 years old, he became first flute of the Regio Teatro Orchestra in Turin conducted by Gianandrea Noseda. Moreover, he was invited as first host flute by following orchestras: La Scala, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Rome Opera, Stuttgart Philharmoniker, Hungarian National Philharmonic, Noord Nederlands Orkest, Symphonica Toscanini (conducted by Lorin Maazel) and has performed all over Europe, in the US, Japan, China and Israel.
The 25 year-old Cho Sunghyun is considered as one of the most representative artists of his generation. Particularly appreciated for his extraordinary musicality and for his deep expressiveness, the young South Korean is first flute of the Koin Philharmonic. Before that, he performed with the prestigious Berlin Philharmonic Academy. Cho Sunghyun studied in Germany and currently lives in Berlin. He won the international competition Severino Gazzelloni and, in the same competition, was also awarded for the best performance of the Sequenza by Luciano Berio.
CREMONA WINDS: CONCERTS, MASTERCLASSES AND GREAT INSTRUMENTS ON DISPLAY. The artistic programme of Cremona Winds is expected to be further enriched by other interesting appointments for flute and wind instruments lovers. As last year, solo and ensemble concerts will be accompanied by several learning moments for students and young musicians who will have the opportunity to directly meet great professors and world famous musicians.
