The 2017 edition of the international Exhibition for high-quality musical instruments will launch “Play and improvise with…” : an open stage for everyone wanting to perform in a duet with the Big Names of classical an jazz music, such as: Gilles Apap, Itamar Golan, Umberto Petrin, Enrico Pieranunzi, Danilo Rea. And Inna Faliks will be the protagonist of piano masterclasses with individual lessons.
Who has never dreamed of performing a duet, even if for a few minutes, with a worldwide famous music star? Dreams, sometimes, come true and Cremona Musica International Exhibitions 2017 (from Sept. 29th to Oct. 1st at Cremona Exhibition Centre) will enrich its wide events programme with the workshops “play and improvise with…”: an innovative format enabling participants to actively take part into a music session with great musicians.
The French violinist Gilles Apap, the Israeli pianist Itamar Golan and the three Italian jazz pianists Umberto Petrin, Enrico Pieranunzi and Danilo Rea. They are the great musicians that will come to Cremona to exceptionally share their creative music approach with registered students. Each workshop will be attended by a maximum of 10 students, so that every musician could directly interact with the professor, who will also have the chance to better shape the lesson.
Cremona Musica educational offer will then be completed by the piano masterclass by Inna Faliks, great Russian-American pianist, head of the piano department at the University of Los Angeles (UCLA).

A workshop to play and improvise with one of the major talents of Italian jazz: improvisation, interaction and stylistic experimentation. The workshop is both for pianists and other jazz instrument players.
Umberto Petrini was born in Broni (PV) in 1960. He is very demanded due to his strictly personal combination of elements from the European 20th century with Monkian and Tristanian music features, while remaining open to free jazz. He cooperates with Tiziana Ghiglioni, Guido Mazzon, Steve Lacy, Paul Lovens, Paul Rutherford, Enrico Rava, Gianluigi Trovesi, Lee Konitz. He has performed with Steve Lacy, Lee Konitz, Anthony Braxton, Lester Bowie, Enrico Rava, Tim Berne, Paul Lovens, Paul Rutherford, Han Bennink, Willem Breuker, Marc Ducret, Michael Moore. With many of them he also recorded several Cds. In his career he has recorded over 70 Cds. One of his most popular works is the solo CD on Monk music, called “Monk’s World”, particularly beloved by the poet Amiri Baraka (LeRoi Jones) who wrote a poem that gave the title to the album. He recently had the honor to perform a duet with Cecil Taylor.
Since 2003, Petrin has been holding seminars on Theater and Music in cooperation with the writer Stefano Benni as well as seminars on “Imagination and Improvisation”. He really believes that art can help the humankind to further develop. He describes himself as “skilled workman of the soul”.
“Play with…Itamar Golan”

Itamar Golan is one of the major chamber pianists of our time. In Cremona he will share is music sensitivity and his great expertise as chamber musician to perform with those violinists who will play for him (and with him) a piece of a composition chosen by themselves and listen to his precious performance suggestions.
Itamar Golan was born in Vilnius in 1970. He studied piano with Lara Vodovoz and Emmanuel Krazovsky and debuted in his first recital at the age of 7. Among the most popular personalities he cooperated with, there are: the Russian virtuoso violinis t Maxim Vengerov, Barbara Hendricks, Shlomo Mintz, Mischa Maisky, Matt Haimovitz, Tabea Zimmermann, Ida Haendel and Julian Rachlin. He is regularly invited to perform in the most popular concert halls and festivals, like those in: Ravenna, Chicago, Tanglewood, Salzburg, Edinburgh, Verbier and Lucerne. As solo pianist he also played with the Israel Philharmonic and the Berliner Philharmonic under the conduction of Zubin Mehta. Between 1991 and 1994 Golan taught at the Manhattan School of Music. He is currently Professor of Chamber Music at the Conservatory of Paris.
“Play and improvise with…Enrico Pieranunzi”

A unique opportunity to improvise with Enrico Pieranunzi, pillar of the Italian jazz. Pieranunzi, who also likes moving to the classical repertoire (as in his recent project on Scarlatti’s Sonatas), will be ready to interact with classical musicians as well, so to discover new and surprising interactions. The workshop is both for pianists and other jazz instrument players.
Enrico Pieranunzi was born in Rome in 1949. He is pianist, composer and arranger. He recorded over 70 Cds going from piano solo to trio and from duo to quintet. He cooperated both in concerts and in recording studios with Chet Baker, Lee Konitz, Paul Motian, Charlie Haden, Chris Potter, Marc Johnson, Joey Baron. He received several awards as best Italian musician of “Top Jazz”, yearly announced by the magazine “Musica Jazz” (1989, 2003, 2008) and as best European Musician (Django d’Or, 1997). Pieranunzi performed on the most important international festivals of the world, from Montreal to Copenhagen, from Berlin to Madrid, Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro and Beijing.
He is the only Italian musician and one of the few European artists who have performed and recorded in the historical “Village Vanguard” of New York. And right for the “Live at The Village Vanguard” with Marc Johnson and Paul Motian (Camjazz, 2010) Pieranunzi was awarded in 2014 with the Echo Jazz Award – German equivalent of the Us Grammy Award – as Best International Piano Player.
He composed thousands of musical pieces, some of which are performed and recorded by musicians from all over the world (“Night bird”, “Don’t forget the poet”, “Fellini’s waltz”).
“Play with…Gilles Apap”
Saturday, September 30th from 2.30 pm to 4 pm – Amati Conference Room
Gilles Apap is a unique player of the current music scenario: classical violinist and favourite pupil of Yehudi Menuhin, he has always loved moving to different music styles. In this workshop especially dedicated to all string instruments (violin, viola, cello and double bass), Apap will guide participants into a special itinerary through Indian music, bluegrass, Irish music and square dance going through shared performance led by his musical energy.
Born in Algeria from a French family, Gilles started playing the violin at early age. He began his musical studies in France and later moved to the Curtis Institute in California. As solo performer, he played with great orchestras such as the Leipzig Gewandhaus, San Francisco and Vancouver Symphony, the Hamburg Philharmonic, the Boston Philharmonic, the Berliner Symphoniker, the Russian National Philharmonic and the Israel Philharmonic. He is the protagonist of three music documentaries by the great film director Bruno Monsaingeon.
“Play and improvise with…Danilo Rea”

A workshop for all the musicians (pianists, vocalists, drummers, bassist, saxophonists, clarinettists) who want to be part of a jam session to improvise and share music with Danilo Rea. He is one of the major jazz musicians of our times, able to range with high versatility from his cooperation with Gino Paoli and Claudio Baglioni to his recent successful duo with the classical pianist Ramin Bahrami, with whom he recorded the CD by Decca “Bach in the Air”.
Classical, rock and pop studies influenced his training and shape his unmistakable style made of two key-elements: melody and improvisation. Right after turning 18 he debuted with the historical Trio of Rome with Enzo Pietropaoli and Roberto Gatto and accompanied as pianist the major Italian singer-songwriters of the time: Mina and Gino Paoli. He also cooperated with: Claudio Baglioni, Pino Daniele, Domenico Modugno, Fiorella Mannoia, Riccardo Cocciante, Renato Zero, Gianni Morandi and Adriano Celentano. Thanks to his talent, he soon became famous at international level as well and performed with great jazz players such as: Chet Baker, Lee Konitz, Steve Grossman, Bob Berg, Phil Woods, Michael Brecker, Tony Oxley, Joe Lovano, Gato Barbieri, Aldo Romano, Brad Mehldau, Danilo Pérez, Michel Camilo, Luis Bacalov.
Piano Masterclass with Inna Faliks

The masterclass consits of three individual lessons of 45 min. each. The three participants will be selected on the basis of Youtube video links submitted together with the application form.
The Ukrainian Inna Faliks is one of the best pianists of her generation and is a piano professor at the UCLA. Very popular for her versatility, Inna Faliks feels herself at ease both in great concerts and in solo repertoires, as well as in chamber and contemporary music.
After her debut with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, she performed on the world’s most prestigious stages and worked with great conductors such as Leonard Slatkin and Keith Lockhart.
She won several competitions, ProMusicis International Award included, and she performed (among others) at: Carnegie Hall’s Weill Concert Hall, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Paris’ Salle Cortot, Chicago’s Orchestra Hall, Moscow’s Tchaikovsky Hall, LA’s Zipper Hall, Festival Internacional de Mexico, Portland Piano International, Music in the Mountains, Verbier Festival, Le Poisson Rouge in New York, Fazioli Series in Italy and l Tel Aviv Museum in Israel.
She recently performed also in China’s major concert halls, such as the Beijing CPA, Shanghai Oriental Arts Theater and Tianjin Grand Theater.
